Kelly & Rhys ~

What a day. When I first met Kelly she was wearing a hipster hat, the cutest nose ring and huge sunnies, and had the most infectious laugh imaginable. I thought I wanna be friends with this girl she is too cool! We can sit around wearing matching hipster hats??

When I met her fiancee Rhys (at a wedding I was photographing) he just seemed such a perfect fit for her. He brought a sense of calm and reassurance – not only that but he is a pretty kick ass musician. I thought if only the stars align maybe I’d have a chance to capture their wedding?

I couldn’t believe it when Kelly wrote and wanted to book me… I thought seriously can I be so lucky?? I don’t think I have ever been so nervous for a wedding, because I wanted to do such a good job for them – I think I drunk a bottle of rescue remedy on the way to The Hilton. Kelly is a epic hair artist in Invercargill and in the wedding industry, so I wanted everything to be flawless for her.

For the bridal portrait there wasn’t a solid colour background in the hotel suite. Then I remembered Kelly’s maiden name is Blackford and her new married name is White (Rhy’s last name) – so the background is black and white symbolising their marriage and names. It couldn’t have worked out any better.

During the planning Kelly kept sending me inspo for the dress and how it was going to be, but wow when I turned up on the day I was blown away!

The Florals were made by Gypsy from The Vase with special crystals in the headpiece, which she had painstakingly hand made. (If anyone knows Kelly they know she is crystal obsessed).

During the day the thing which really touched my heart was Kelly’s mum. She has been through so much in the past 10 years and sat there tears in her eyes watching Kelly walk up the aisle. I don’t think I’ve EVER cried so hard at a wedding. I’m crying writing this because it was so emotional.

The reception was held at The Hilton with mini burgers, sushi and other canapes, and with huge cake by White Rabbit. Music was hammers because Rhys knows all the talented musos. One dude on a trumpet in particular blew me away!

What a day!

Kelly and Rhys thanks so much for having us capture your wedding day ~ I hope it was everything you dreamed of and more.

x Char
